Directed by Whitney Pintello
The musical comedy “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” is a classic, fast-paced farce, bringing comedy from ancient Rome to American Broadway to our own popular Gilroy theater stage. The newest show at Pintello Comedy Theater has had Americans laughing across the country literally for decades. Opening a four-week run for the month of September, this energetic musical comedy brings a cast of awarding-winning actors from all around the South Bay musical theater scene.
Presenting this energetic musical comedy is quite a project, and Pintello Comedy Theater is up to the challenge. Opening a four-week run in September, the summer show for 2017 will bring audiences from everywhere, applauding the talented actors, singers and dancers, catchy tunes, and witty humor. "There's great enthusiasm from the stage, and from audiences!" declares director Whitney Pintello, "This show is timeless!" Musical director Dave Leon is delighted with the casting, “From elegant ballads to naughty duets to full-scale harmonies, this troupe can do it all!”
Promising “something for everyone -- Comedy Tonight!” from the opening number, the show runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. for four weekends, from September 1st through September 23rd. One matinee performance will be presented on Sunday, September 10th at 2 p.m. Reservations and information are online at www.PintelloComedy.com or by calling (408) 337-1599, or e-mail Pintello@charter.net.
Set in ancient Rome, lots of funny things happen on the way to the forum: Pseudolus plots to gain his freedom, Hero falls in love with Philia, Senex dreams of having a maid, Domina demands order, Marcus Lycus tries to please everyone, Erronius trudges in circles, Miles Gloriosus boasts of his prowess, and Hysterium can barely keep up! Add in the dancing courtesans and manly Proteans for an evening of farcical fun! Setting the pace as Pseudolus is Pintello Comedy Theater favorite Dave Leon (Trekkie Monster in Avenue Q, and winner of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). His cohorts in the pandemonium include:
Vanessa Alvarez, Lawrence-Michael Arias, Taunya Barrera, Alex Cox, Vicky Glenn-Perret, Matt Haluza, Duane Holt, Dave Leon, Joline Masten, Ronnie Misra, CJ Patereau, Rod Pintello, Jery Rosas, Sarah Smith, Andrew Stebbins, James Swan and Jennifer Young. All are veterans of South Bay stages and delighted to be presenting this iconic show by Larry Gelbart, Bert Shevelove, and Stephen Sondheim.
Produced by Rod and Marion Pintello, the musical comedy is being presented in the Gilroy Grange Hall at 8191 Swanston Lane in Gilroy. This is the popular comedy troupe's 60th show and their 15th year entertaining South Bay residents and teaming up with over 100 different actors. Pintello Comedy Theater continues to present full-length comedy plays featuring local actors, comfortable table seating, wine, coffee and snacks, and their trademark friendly welcome. “We are proud to be featuring local wines with our refreshments, too,” notes producer Rod Pintello.
Bringing four new comedies to the stage each year at the Grange Hall is a labor of love, says the Pintello family, adding that they’re very happy with the central location off Leavesley Road between Monterey and Forest. “We’re enormously pleased with the enthusiasm of our audiences. Our patrons have become friends.” Rod, Marion, Whitney, Simon and Charley are happy to welcome everyone to the fun and friendly atmosphere of their theater at the Grange Hall in Gilroy. They’re sure you’ll agree with their motto, “There’s Something Funny Going on Here!”
